We, Edward Hart and Calvin Hacket do hereby certify that in pursuance of previous notice duly given for three successive Sabbaths a meeting was held at the Brick School House on Monday the 13th day of March instant of the stated worshippers with the African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Village of Marshall, the said school house being the usual place of worship of said Church, that such meeting was duly organized by the appointment of Edward Hart a preaching Elder of said church and Calvin Hacket there being no other officer of said Church present to preside at said meeting, that the said meeting so convened, did then and there proceed to the Election of Five Trustees to to [sic] take charge of the Estate and property belonging to said Church, namely Calvin Hacket, Joseph Gomer, Charles Bergen, Planter Moss, and Charles Parker, were duly elected such trustees and that the said meeting did then and there determine that the name by which the said Trustees and their successors in office shall forever be called and known shall be the African Methodist Episcopal Society of Marshall.

And we do further certify that immediately after the Election of said Trustees, they were divided by lot into three classes, as follows, to wit. Joseph Gomer and Planter Moss to serve for one year, Charles Bergen for two years, and Calvin Hacket and Charles Parker for three years.

In Testimony whereof we the said Edward Hart and Calvin Hacket have hereunto set our hands and seals at Marshall this Thirteenth day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and forty eight.

On this fourteenth day of March A.D. 1848 personally before me a Notary Public in and for said County came the above named Edward Hart and Calvin Hacket and severally acknowledged that they executed the foregoing Certificate.
