Battle Creek (Mich.)

Pursuant to 15 days notice personally given according to the Statute in such case made & provided, persons belonging to the Congregational Church at Battle Creek & to the congregation usually attending said church assembled at the place in which said church usually worship on the 10th day of January 1842 for the purpose of electing Trustees as provided in the Revised Statutes, Part 1st, Title _, Chapter 1st where Deacons Fayette Cross & John S. VanBrunt belonging to said church were duly nominated to preside & provided at said meeting. On motion it was voted that a Board of Trustees be chosen consisting of 5 persons, whereupon Joseph Young, Platt Gilbert, G. F. Smith, Stephen W. Leggett, & Moses Hall were elected by ballot as such Trustees. On motion said trustees were divided by lot into 3 classes numbered 1, 2, & 3. When it was determined that Joseph Young & Platt Gilbert were of the 1st class, & hold their office 1 year, Moses Hall of the 2nd class for 2 years, G. F. Smith & Stephen W. Leggett of the 3rd class for 3 years. On motion it was voted that said Society be called & known as the United Congregational & Presbyterian Society of Battle Creek & by such name the Trustees & their successors in office shall be called & known.
