Description

A postcard photograph of the Marshall Public Library (now Marshall District Library) at 111 E. Mansion St. The building was designed by architect Frederick Spier and built in 1913. The library resided here until 1998, when it moved to its current location at 124 W. Green St. The building at 111 E. Mansion St. now houses the American Museum of Magic's archives.

The back of the postcard states:
Dear aunt Mary:
We are having a good time. Hope you are O.K.
Claude + Ethel

It is addressed to Miss Mary Ruess of Berlamont, Mich.

The exact date of the photograph or mailing of the postcard is unknown, but the building was constructed in 1913 and Mary Ruess died in 1939. In between those years, the cost of postage for postcards was only raised to 2 cents from 1917-1919, as a wartime measure. The remaining years, the cost was 1 cent.

The postcard was donated to Marshall District Library by Christine Price, Mary Ruess's great, great niece.
